My friend is sending an e-mailed me about the possibility of working as a teacher, lecturer, or researcher in Indonesia. In my view, the educational background he has, it seems he can easily work in various foreign companies in Europe there, or in other parts of the earth. Why would he want to choose a career to be a lecturer, teacher, or researcher in Indonesia? Frankly, my salary is small when compared to his career as a professional consultant at a renowned consulting company in Europe. Apparently there is a non-material aspects into consideration.

Why would he want to choose a career to be a lecturer, teacher, or researcher in Indonesia? Frankly, my salary is small when compared to his career as a professional consultant at a renowned consulting company in Europe. Apparently there is a non-material aspects into consideration.
What are some non-material aspects of these? Let's take a look one by one.
First, it is likely to still be able to conduct religious worship in accordance with their respective religions. A Catholic friend of mine who had confusion in determining the attitude, whether to accept a job offer or not. The position was offered to him as a career con sultan article in a foreign consulting firm with a lucrative remuneration. But the company hinted at a possibility often work on weekends, which caused him to church cluttered schedule. This is a non-material considerations. There is another case in another company. Can you imagine how Muslim employees should the lunch with the leadership and staff throughout the office on Friday, when they are conducting Friday prayers at the mosque.
Second, the possibility or opportunity for self-development, including the development of knowledge and competence. We need to consider this in choosing a job or career direction specify. Jobs that are routine and do not give us a chance to develop themselves will make us a while to be left behind and may not be able to keep up with changes. If this happens, we might be later career stagnation.
Third, a pleasant working atmosphere. This is indeed a very broad scope. But let's narrow meaning, namely the interaction among fellow employees in the office. Imagine you work at a company where employee relations are not so familiar, all busy working with their business due to competition and the deadlines are so tight. Even the opportunity to mourn a fellow employee who had died the family was not there. What's worse, we mutually do not know of any other employees affected by disasters.
Fourth, do not lose time for the family. For those employees who are already married, it's worth considering this aspect. The competition is so tight a schedule of work is becoming increasingly crowded, and can-can 24 hours a day and 7 days a week felt less. For most people, lost family time means losing one happiness in life. And happiness is what we want to accomplish with the work and careers. Ironic is not it?
Are all of the above can be compensated with money? Suppose you are compensated for high over the weekend, but lost time to the church. Or you work with a high salary, but do not have time anymore to run the Friday prayer. Are you willing to highly paid, but did not have time for your family? This is all the non-material aspects in choosing a job, which seemed appropriate for us to think together.
Actually, many more non-material aspects that should be considered in choosing a job. But perhaps the dominant is the four things above. The core of this article is, there are aspects of non-material that is actually not less important to be considered in choosing a job. Non-material aspects of this counterweight to the material aspect that must have been thought out beforehand.
Of course we have full right and authority to decide what's best for ourselves respectively. Non-material aspect is what will be a counterweight to the material aspect which is reflected in tangible material remuneration offered by the company workplace.
